CLASSES

Theatre Arlington’s Adult and Children’s Theatre School (ACTS) utilizes a progressive curriculum in order for students to build upon what they have learned in a previous class or class level and reach their potential as students of theatre and the performing arts. Class offerings in Private Voice, Dance and Piano add variety and opportunities for students to grow outside of traditional acting or musical theatre classes.

Creative Play

A focus and development of the imagination of the pre-school age child, using music and creative arts projects in order to make stories come alive.

Acting Two**

A review of the concepts learned in Acting I, and the learning of monologues, improvisation, characterization, auditioning techniques, scene work, performing and developing related skills.

An introduction to different genres of theater, as well as a historical base for performing and creating theater.

Advanced Acting**

An in-depth study of acting and being an actor, incorporating journaling, writing monologues, and self-analysis for students who have an interest in a career in the theatre.

Acting for Teens**
Ages 13 - 18

A flexible acting class for teenagers. Its structure is flexible because it will require the assessment of the instructor in order to teach to the abilities and experiences of the students. Study should focus on basic stage direction, scene study, monologues, characterization and performance.

MUSICAL THEATRE KIDS CAMP - JUNE

Kids will love this week-long theatre immersion camp, culminating in a performance of a classic children's musical for friends and family on the Theatre Arlington stage. Participants will learn by doing as they audition and rehearse for a show, guided by professional directors and choreographers.

This full day performance camp is for middle and high school students who have previous class and performing experience. Students will experience Master classes in acting, voice and movement, taught by professionals from the DFW area. They will also rehearse and perform in Into the Woods during the last week of camp for area school and camp groups, as well as the public.

For students new to performing or those who just love a good theatre camp, this one offers a comprehensive overview of the performance and technical aspects of theatre. Utilizing teachers who specialize in their class subject, this camp covers acting, dance, voice, stage combat, costume design, construction, and lighting and sound design. After two weeks of study, students will participate in a Friends and Family performance to showcase their new knowledge.

For the younger performer, Play and Pretend is all about beloved characters from classic children’s literature this summer at Theatre Arlington. Come learn about theatre while creating theatre! Instructors experienced with younger students and Creative Dramatics will guide and direct the camp participants in a final performance for friends and family. Come and play with us!

INTERNSHIPS
INTERNSHIPS

Theatre Arlington is looking for a few good interns for our educational summer camps. These are paid internships for qualified high school and college students who are motivated to work with kids and are passionate about theatre, with all its glamour and all its dirt, literally. Details for 2020 Internships coming later in 2019!

Positions Available
Head Intern: Responsible for intern daily assignments and direct supervision. Must be college student.
   
Office Intern: Responsible for checking in with office staff on a daily basis for administrative assignments. Also will create playbills for all camp performances and handle camper supplies.
   
Educational Intern: Assigned to a director/instructor or camper group
Qualifications

Must be 15 years of age or older at time of application.

Can be humorous or serious, but must be well-written.

Duties Include

Camper check in and check out, class support for camp directors, stage management, lighting or sound for camp performances. Space clean up and restoration each day. Administrative tasks as needed. Camper supervision and assistance with sets, props and costumes for performances.

ACT UPS
Applied Creative Thinking Using Performance Skills

Developed in 1996, as a partnership with the Arlington Independent School District to target culturally diverse, at-risk students, the ACT UPS program now reaches more than 1,500 at-risk 4th or 5th grade children each year at Title 1 Elementary Schools within the AISD.  The ACT UPS Program will proudly celebrate its 24th anniversary during the 2019-2020 school year!
